Black Business Online Network To Support Greek Fraternities & Sororities Launch

The new online marketing platform is specially designed to help local African-American Greek vendors navigate the challenging post-pandemic economy. Its goal is to restore vendors’ operations by offsetting rising vending costs, such as licensing fees, air travel expenses, inventory costs, dock fees, and storage fees.

The launch of the NPHC-SEPA marketplace was conceived by Council members to give Greek vendors a strategic online position that would connect them with a target audience of millions. Vendors can access the platform and leverage this positioning for a monthly fee that is less than the cost of a movie ticket.

In the US, small businesses have been especially hard hit by the pandemic. Between January 2020 and May 2021, as much as 34 percent of small businesses closed due to the pandemic. However, at the same time, the number of applications for business Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) dramatically increased, showing the American entrepreneurial spirit was still alive.

In this spirit, the NPHC-SEPA marketplace serves as a national online shopping platform exclusive to NPHC-SEPA members and their licensed local Greek vendors. The marketplace is an opportunity for these vendors to increase their sales nationwide, offsetting rising expenses and restoring vendors’ operations.

Vendors are encouraged to join the marketplace if they are licensed by the nine Greek organizations they represent. Upon approval, licensed “Divine 9” (or D9) vendor members will enjoy greater potential for business success.

The NPHC was founded in 1930 to unite African-American Greek organizations and foster collaboration in pursuing their mutual interests. In southeastern Pennsylvania, the Council has nine chapters known as the Divine 9, serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. The goal of the D9 is to empower Black-owned small businesses and preserve the socioeconomic well-being of the communities they serve.

According to Council President Tiana Phillips, “We’re creating a Greek version of that mega dot com that begins with an ‘A.’ D9 vendors are not only the ticket for all of the NPHC’s fundraising efforts – these vendors are the ticket and the show.”
