Beecroft Terracotta Pipe Tree Root Removal & Drain Inspection Report Released

Sewer Surgeon’s new report aims to show customers how keeping terracotta pipes clear of tree root infiltration can help lower utility bills, reduce repair and maintenance costs, and prevent further structural damage. The report also details a few of the ways that Sewer Surgeon clears drains blocked by tree roots.

Tree roots are one of the biggest causes of damage to sewage pipes. Because roots are constantly searching for water sources, sewage pipes become a breeding ground for root infiltration. If pipes are cracked, collapsed, or corroded, it’s much easier for roots to get inside, grow, and cause blockages and other structural issues.

In the new report, Sewer Surgeon describes several methods for clearing tree root infiltrations. First, the drain must be checked for obstruction. To do this, a Sewer Surgeon expert uses CCTV camera equipment to inspect the drain. The camera’s flexible head is fed through the drain, providing a continuous live video feed of the drain and allowing the expert to identify the location of the blockage.

Once located, the expert can either use jet blasting or tree root treatment to clear the obstruction. Jet blasting involves shooting streams of high-pressure water into the pipe to clear it out. It’s an eco-friendly option that not only removes tree roots but also cleans the pipe’s walls. Tree root treatment utilises RootX, an aquatic herbicide that is deposited into the drain to clear it out. Like jet blasting, it is also eco-friendly, reliable, and cost-effective.

Even though tree roots may be cleared, damage to the pipes may remain. To fix this damage, Sewer Surgeon recommends pipe patching, junction repair, or UV pipe relining, all of which they offer in addition to their pipe clearing services.

According to the report, keeping sewage pipes clear of tree root intrusion allows sewage systems to operate at optimal performance, which in turn, can reduce utility bills and save money on future repair costs. It can also prevent the spread of contaminants, which if left to fester in drains, can cause damage to nearby plants and wildlife.
