Following the latest announcement, Hope Rising notes it has created a mechanism for educators to carve out a dedicated space in the classroom for students and teachers to speak openly about personal development issues. The “My Best Me” curriculum centers around the idea that being hopeful can be taught by developing positive behavior that encompasses self-reflection, collaboration, and emotional literacy, among others.

Since the late 1970s, studies have shown a steady decline in children’s empathy. With the social interruption and isolation experienced during the pandemic, the already declining rate of empathy in children has potentially taken more recent hits. Since empathy is a central element of all human relationships, if children struggle to be caring and kind, it can negatively impact their family relationships.

Empathy is a primary concern of the “My Best Me” curriculum created by Hope Rising. By enhancing students’ social and emotional skills, the program aims to teach them how to foster healthy relationships with classmates, teachers, and family members.

Educators can use the curriculum to help students develop action-oriented skills like having healthy interactions, maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and understanding personal identity and relationship roles. Hope Rising’s curriculum is designed to be taught in a one-hour-per-week format or can be customized for different schedules.
